Murals, markets and music in Oaxaca

Walking and driving around, the buildings in Oaxaca have a lot of graffiti which is sad.  What is not sad, are the beautiful murals on the very colorful walls of buildings.  A large number of these murals are in the Barrio Xochimilco.

Walking on streets everywhere can lead to more mural sightings.  Some represent businesses and others appear to be largely for decoration.  Whatever the reason, they are beautiful.

Markets, markets, markets.  There is no shortage.  The most popular appears to be the Benito Juarez market which is named after the very popular President who came from Oaxaca.  As with all markets, it has a variety of products, ranging from food to clothing to flowers.

Tamales from the market

People from small villages come in to set up this market on the weekends - very authentic food.

El Negro was recommended to us for both the food and the cultual dancing.  It did not disappoint.  The food was delicious and the dancing fast, active and colorful.  In between dance sets a young fellow filled in with a saxophone.  My only problem, the smoke from the grills cooking the meat. But music is around everywhere - you never know what is going to be happening in the square or around the next corner!
