The Adventure Ends

The stunning views of the Copper Canyon were left behind as we set off for Creel, about an hour and a half from Divisadero.  Here we stayed at The Lodge - character to spare!

Creel also shares the character.  As the northern gateway to the Copper Canyon it is very much a tourist location. In addition it has a great little museum full of lots of information.

Our time in Creel was short before we were off to visit the surrounding sights.  First stop, the Valley of the Monks.  The rock formations are stunning.  Nature can be so fascinating. Other formations could be found in the Valley of the Fogs and the Valley of the Mushrooms.

The area has so much to see.  Our next stop was an old Jesuit Church.  Today it is a church for the local people, Rarámuri, practicing a combination of their beliefs with traditional Christian beliefs.  Final stop - a visit to a cave home.  This one is not currently lived in but it shows the structure.  Yes there are people in the area still living in these homes.

It was a long drive to Chihuahua and another adventure as we were stopped to have the transportation papers check.  They did not meet the expectations.  The good news, after about half an hour and a ticket to the driver, we were on the road again.  The bad news, we were all too tired to explore the area that evening.

The final full day in Mexico and had a fast tour of Chihuahua.  We were able to visit the church and governor’s palace to see the magnificent murals of Aron Pina Mora.  Because it was Monday, all museums were closed so we were only able to visit from the outside.

And just like that over 3 weeks in Mexico comes to an end.  Only fitting that our guide from the Copper Canyon should have the last word.
