The Whiskey Trail

Balvenie Castle, close to Glenfiddich

We had a leisurely start to the day and did not head out until 10 for our whiskey day.  Unfortunately we were not able to do the distillery processing tour as they were closed for maintenance.  Despite that our visit to Glenfiddich was a success.  We met our guide Whiskey Mitch, learned the history of this largest and still family run distillery, and visited the storage warehouses. It is a beautiful and huge facility.

Of course the highlight was tasting various scotches ranging from 12 years to 26 years old.  To top that they served us a beautiful lunch with one more dram of scotch.  There were definitely a lot of happy people leaving the room to shop and then get back on that bus.

For others the highlight was a visit to the spectacular washrooms.  I think the main area was larger than my house!

But we weren’t finished - just a few miles down the road we were hosted in a beautiful room in the Dowan’s Hotel and enjoyed 3 more drinks from other distilleries.  Whiskey Mitch provided us with lots of history and information on this drink - I think I might be liking it.

I

Ian, our new bus driver was wearing his kilt today and looking dapper!  And for a treat To, our guide treated us to a couple of bag pipe tunes when we returned from the day.

Aviemore is small but another charming little village like so many others we have visited during the past 10 days.
