The Highlands

We spent time in the Aviemore area today as we experienced different activities.  To start the day, we had a chance to visit the sheep dogs and see them in action.   Once again they were amazing as they gathered the sheep from the far areas of the fields and herded them towards us.  Some of them were certainly more effective then others.  And then of course there were the absolutely adorable lambs, 14 week old puppies and a hairy coo calf.  Lots of time for ooohs - so cute.

Then it was time to visit Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens.  An interesting place as the family still lives on site.  While we were able to visit many of the rooms, no pictures were allowed.  The family lives in a wing but do use the rooms when tours aren’t happening.  The grounds are beautiful but I suspect they are beautiful in spring and summer.  We were served a lovely soup, sandwiches and sweets in the tea room.

Then it was time for a trip south on our way to Pitlochry with a short stop at Dalwhinnie Distiller.

Pitlochry is a very pretty little town.  Everything in the towns closes early so there was no time for shopping.  We will face our first change because of the events regarding the Queen’s passing.  Most things will be shut down tomorrow.  We were to have some free time to explore and then visit a site.  Instead we will have a slower start, watch the funeral in the bar and then head off to Edinburgh, the last stop in the tour.
