A Day for a History Lesson

We have a new driver today and along with Ian came company for Tom, our guide’s hairy coo.  We are driving around with a herd of hairy coos on the front dash.

We had a chance to learn more about the Jacobite Revolution in 1745 by visiting the Culloden Museum and Battlefield.  The museum is very interactive including a rather graphic video of the battle reenactment on 4 walls.  The walk in the actual battleground is a sobering experience. When I get home it will definitely be time to watch the Outlanders first few seasons again.

We also visited Fort George built after the revolution to make sure all was settled in the government’s favour.  It continues to be a working site for Scottish military.

As we made our way to Aviemore, we made a quick stop in a distillery to taste a bit of scotch.  The 14 year old Tomatin was quite lovely.  They were very accommodating as we pulled in unexpectedly and served everyone a wee dram.  From there it was on to Aviemore, a pretty little hotel in the highlands.  We are staying at the MacDonald Hotel which is a large complex just on the edge of the small village.
