Back to Paradise

It feels so good to be back in one of my favourite places on the planet.  My group arrived in Bali on Jan 25 after two long plane rides.  The 12 hour flight to Taipei was almost better than the 5 hour flight to Bali!  Premium Economy really does help and China Airlines service was great.

Sanur has changed so much in just 2 years.  The biggest change is the opening of a huge mall with every brand name you can think of in it.  Of course that meant the construction of it took out some of the smaller hotels and local businesses with more to leaving soon.

In addition to the mall there are a number of big new resorts going up along the beach. The beach vibe is still there.

We are staying at one of the old classics - Griya Santrian and it is lovely!  Everyone is awed by the lush green grounds and tropical flowers.

It is rainy season and we have had some!  So far no nice sunny days but it is still warm and yes it is muggy!  We haven’t been caught in a down pour yet as they have been at night but I am sure that will happen!

It has been a slow start to exploration with some pool and beach time.  Many of the group came with me to visit Sarina the dressmaker!  Clothes were flying around everywhere as ready made were purchased and conversations of what she would make were had! With yardages in hand we visited material street the next day and a log of material was purchased.  Three full blocks of materials but we confined ourselves to just a few shops. I think the total is about 35 pieces of clothing being made in the next week!  The reveal should be quite a fashion show.

Right across the street is the big indoor market which we took a stroll through.

And then it was off to Kuta for a short beach walk and lunch.  As usual no shortage of food!  Kuta beach is a surfing beach - the waves were not huge and few surfers out.  The water was pretty turned up and not that inviting. The beach was very littered with man made garbage as well as lots of drift wood, all of which had come in during rainy season. Not my favorite place on the island so returning to the nice peaceful and calm beaches of Sanur was perfect!

Back to the peaceful, calm beaches of Sanur and back to Sarina with material.

Although we had experienced rain over the past 3 weeks, no activities were seriously impacted, until the last day.  It was a nice ride by MR...
