Morelia

Each place we visit has something different to offer and Morelia is no different.  One of the outstanding sites is the beautiful catedral which looks spectacular at night.  Right in the middle of the historic centre it shows its beauty in many different ways.

There is lots to explore by foot in historic Morelia both day and night.  In fact, at night it becomes quite a booming place with lots of music, street vendors and traffic.

Our big adventure here was a visit to the Monarch Butterfly Santuario.  We were definitely excited as we left - the weather looked like a sunny day - better to see the butterflies! Unfortunately by the time we arrived, the clouds had rolled in. Two years ago I saw thousands right at the entrance - not this time.

A couple of our members decided to venture up to the top by horse.  The rest started off with sticks and poles in hand in search of butterflies.  In the end the group got smaller and only five brave souls made it to the top to join the horse back riders.  The miracle happened and the sun came out for about 15 minutes so  they were able to witness the magic of the these tiny little creatures.

Meanwhile at the bottom we were eating, shopping and relaxing as we waited for the tough to arrive back.  Refreshments and food were well deserved.

It was a long day and those who made it to the top were thrilled with the break in weather.  For the rest of us we were satisfied with their stories and pictures before boarding the van back to Morelia and enjoying a brilliant sunset.
