Copper Canyon day arrived bright and sunny. We made our way to the train station for a 9:20 departure on El Chepe. As in my previous trips, the ride did not disappoint. The terrace car is the place to be for views, interacting with other tourists and lots of laughs and of course great pictures.
After awing over the scenery we arrived at the first stop and departed by van to the town of Ceochaui. This is a lovely little town but very isolated. One of the highlights is the girls boarding school. My generous group brought treats and we were able to give every girl a bag. We promised not to share their pictures on the internet but take my word for it - they were adorable in their brightly colored traditional dress and perfect hair. They went to church, we went for a cerveza.
From there it was time to survive the very bumpy ride to Mirador and marvel at the sight in front of it. If only the pictures did it justice.
We learned more about the indigenous cooking, games and weaving during a visit to a local community.
Cable car rides, zip lining and a short walk along the rim gave us more pictures to awe over before leaving the Copper Canyon.
