Returning to Victoria

Our week in Tofino was over.  Despite the rain, it as a great week and a wonderful experience exploring close to home - I guess this was a side benefit to COVID.  The drive back to Victoria would not be complete without one more meal, this time at a charming pub in the middle of no where.

The day was not over.  We had time to explore beautiful down town Victoria before, you guessed it, a great meal along the harbour.

Tofino

Not surprising, but the west coast of Vancouver Island was an absolute beautiful spot even in the rain.  Ok the day out on the water in the rain was pretty chilly but provided a few good laughs as we walked the couple of blocks to the harbour in our bulky, bright orange wet suits!

Lots of opportunities for walks - on the beaches, the trails and of course through some lovely forested areas.  The best day was definitely in Ucluelet along the Wild Pacific Way - beautiful blue skies and lovely waters below, although they did look cold.

More walks through wonderfully green forests.

Long Beach lived up to its name and you could walk forever.  Chesterman Beach was located close to our log chalet.  Another great walking beach, even in the mist!

A visit to the spa was a must.  We found a delightful one at the botanical gardens.  The spa was in a tent along the water, so peaceful and relaxing.  The gardens, well interesting!  There was not a lot to look at for flowers but the walk to the water was beautiful and of course the strange sculptures added color and interest.

Fun eating experiences including fish tacos from the food truck - waiting in the pouring rain, to burgers around the fire pit and a few stops for chocolates and ice cream.

Feels So Good!!

The excitement was there - travelling for the first time in a year and half.  Covid was still around but there was a bit more flexibility in the summer and fall of 2021. Travelling overseas was still uncertain and my trip to Africa had been cancelled.  So why not explore my own province?

Off to the island where even the ferry ride was exciting, an overnight in Victoria and then the next morning we started our adventure by taking our time, stopping for coffee, exploring sights along the way and eventually driving down an ugly road under construction into a beautiful wonderland.  We had arrived at our destination - a lovely log home along Jensen Bay.  The view was great especially with a refreshment in hand.

Visiting Duncan for the totem poles
and a coffee stop

And then there was Coombs.  Difficult to describe with a variety of very different stores, the hippie van and of course let’s not forget the goats on the roof.

No question this was an amazing walk.  Old growth forest at its best.  Breath taking!

Arrival at Jensen Bay and our lovely log home for the week.

Perfect spot for afternoon happy hour.
